The Tom Barlow Era comes to an end
December 18, 2023 (Official Press Release)

The New York Red Bulls have traded forward Tom Barlow to Chicago Fire FC, the club announced today. New York will receive $125,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2024 and an additional $125,000 in GAM in 2025. The Red Bulls could receive another $150,000 in GAM if Barlow meets certain performance-based incentives.

"We want to thank Tom [Barlow] for his time with the club, he always represented the club well on and off the field," said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider. "Tom was a true professional and had a great attitude that set a great example for the locker room. We are wishing him and his family the best in this next step of his career."

Barlow, 28, notched 34 MLS appearances this season for New York and became the second Red Bulls forward to play every match in a 34-game season. He scored five goals across all competitions this season and tallied two assists. The Saint Louis, Missouri native joined the club back in 2018, when he was selected No. 39 overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Barlow signed for New York Red Bulls II and played in 40 matches, where he scored 19 goals. He signed for the first team on May 8, 2019, and made his MLS debut the same night against the Montreal Impact.

The forward has made 140 appearances across all competitions for the club, which includes 123 MLS appearances. He scored 14 career MLS goals and tallied two assists. Barlow scored three playoff goals in his career with New York, which ranks tied for fourth in franchise history. In 2022, Barlow recorded a single-season high in goals scored with four.
