BWP leads league in goals, Kljestan in assists
October 23, 2016 (Official Press Release)

New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips won his second MLS Golden Boot trophy in the last three seasons on Sunday, finishing the 2016 regular season with 24 goals to edge David Villa of New York City FC.

The capstone goal came in the 26th minute against Philadelphia on Sunday, when Wright-Phillips took Aurelien Collin's long lead pass in stride, beating the defenders to the ball and then chipping Union goalkeeper Andre Blake, finishing the run with a tap-in at the goalmouth.

Sacha Kljestan capped his landmark 2016 campaign by clinching the league's top assists mark on Sunday, finishing the regular season with 19 helpers. Kljestan's assists tally marks the most in the league since the second assist rule was changed in 2002, a total only matched by Steve Ralston in 2002, Guillermo Barros Schelotto in 2008 and Landon Donovan in 2014.
