Media Day with Bradley Wright-Phillips
March 2, 2016

MetroFanatic: Bradley, you're close to Juan Pablo Angel's goal-scoring record, if you keep the pace, you'll break it this year.
Bradley Wright-Phillips: Yeah, that's what I keep hearing. I really don't want to talk about it.

MF: It's kinda early, but...
BWP: Obviously, it would be a nice achievement to reach. It's too early to say, who knows, I can start season not great, and not even be in the team. I don't want to be caught up in it personally. Obviously, if I could reach it, it would be a nice thing.

MF: Your brother is now here, that must be a bit special.
BWP: Yeah, I feel happy, and he's now got a preseason under his belt. I'm excited to see what he's gonna bring to the team. What he's done in his career is more than any of us have done. It's just amazing to have that in the team, and as a brother.

MF: He's here because you got married, so it's your wife's fault...
BWP: (laughs) To her credit, got me to get married, I had no choice in the situation. Shaun came for that wedding, and he's here now.

MF: Jesse talked about different kinds of formations. Last year, we went one forward, one forward, one forward.
BWP: Yeah, that's what we're doing every week, there's definitely a number of formations we can throw at teams. If they think they figured out one thing, we give them something else. It will make us stronger.

MF: That seemed to be the case in the playoffs last year, they figured us out. The attack wasn't as fluid.
BWP: Exactly. You can take some praise from that. They changed their game. We made them change their game. If we go to a team, we don't really like to change our game. We know how to beat teams. Most of the times, we outwork them. We made them change their game, and, to be fair to them, it worked. We'll see what happens this season.

MF: So other than just applying pressure, there's a tactical part?
BWP: It was Jesse's first season, our first season together. There were obviously things that we were gonna pick up along the way. Everyone is getting excited about last season, that was just the beginning of what we're about. I feel we're not even at full potential.

MF: Your record-setting year, 27 goals, two assists. Last year, a bit more balanced...
BWP: That's exactly. Yeah, it was fun, scoring every week, I would never say it wasn't, but at the end of the day, what did we get from it? The team didn't get shit, we didn't get MLS Cup. I feel like 17 goals, and I'm not sure how many assists, seven or eight, I feel the team benefited more. More players scored goals, and we got a championship out of it, I mean the shield. I think it's better for the team to have balanced stats.
