The man who never scored
December 4, 2015

There are many memories of Roy Miller's time with Metro. In fact, his playoff performance over the years is a lowlight reel brought to life. And who can forget when he encroached on purpose? Not us, that's for sure. But let's not talk about that.

Let's talk about the big zero. That's zero goals, in 140 games. Roy Miller never scored.

Let's list off defenders who scored for Metro since Miller joined the team in 2010: Ream, Borman, Holgersson, Lade, Pearce, Barklage, Conde, Olave, Sekagya, Perrinelle, Zubar, Miazga, Duvall, Wallace, Lawrence. Miller? Well, he got close a couple of times. In fact, he often tried so hard that the best option was left by the wayside.

(As a side note, Miller has ways to go to get the MLS record. His 125 scoreless league games pale in comparison to Brandon Prideaux's 252. Miller does hold the record for most MLS assists without a goal, 15.)

So as the supposed stalwart rides into the sunset, and the debate of whether Miller is the best left back in Metro history rages on (at least in our minds), let's just say that he leaves a legacy that will be almost impossible to match.

Oh! We're forgetting one very important point. Miller did score... into his own net, during the 2012 playoffs vs DC. Didn't we agree not to talk about that?
