RBNY to start USL Pro team?
December 8, 2014

You probably have heard the rumbles. After promising early in 2014 that a USL team will be started next year, RBNY had a turnaround in September. "We will not be creating our own USL Pro team here. That much I can tell you," Andy Roxburgh told BigAppleSoccer. "We're in the process of trying to organize our relationship with someone else."

Mike Petke was not exactly a fan of the decision. "At the end of the day, in any professional sports, there is a huge element of business that goes into," he told BAS. "It doesn't come down to a soccer decision, what's best from a soccer standpoint. I certainly don't foot the bill for a USL Pro team or how much it costs so I really can't offer my opinion on it. Would I like to have a USL team? Absolutely. It'd benefit us greatly. As I said a second ago, I don't make that decision and I don't have that money or offer that money to pay for it. It comes down to a global situation and Red Bull global felt that it wasn't the right thing to do."

Well, it looks like there was another turnaround. According to SoccerByIves, RBNY will start its USL team next year. The announcement is expected soon. Perhaps seeing the Galaxy's success in utilizing their team on the way to the MLS title had something to do with it.
