Tim Cahill scores at the World Cup
June 18, 2014

Are you kidding???!!! Tim Cahill scored the most amazing goal of the World Cup, one-timing a long volley from the top of the box. It was beyond glorious...

Sadly for Australia, it wasn't glorious enough. The Socceroos fought valiantly, but were outplayed by the much-favored Netherlands 3:2. With two straight losses, they are as good as out of the tournament.

Cahill's tournament looks to be over as well, as he picked up a yellow card late in the first half. Adding to the one he received in the opener means that he will miss out what is bound to be Australia's last game.

The Dutch opened the scoring in the 20th, after a tantalizing run by Arjen Robben. Cahill responded a minute later, with a moment of individual brilliance that we hope to see later this year in a New York jersey.

The two teams exchanged goals close to each other in the second half as well, as an Australia penalty was followed four minutes later by a Dutch reply. Sadly for the Socceroos, in the 68th, a long Dutch shot skipped through the penalty area and beat their befuddled keeper.

For some reason, Cahill was subbed out in the second half, leaving Australia without their main threat. So thus likely ends his glorious World Cup career...

But what a note to go out on!
