Inept finishing dooms Metro in DC, 1:0
April 12, 2014

DC United New York
04.12.14 · League

We tried to preach patience through the season-opening winless streak, but enough is enough. Playing a game they had no business in losing, Metro did just that, dropping a 1:0 result to the hated Scum. The fact that New York dominated the entire second half does us no good; this is now a team looking up at pretty much the whole league. Something is not right in Metro land. Something is not right.

Jamison Olave and Thierry Henry came back from turf-induced absence at the expense of now-injured Armando and Bradley Wright-Phillips. Dax McCarty returned to his usual starting role, as Bobby Convey was held out with an injury.

The Scum scored just four minutes into the match. Off a corner kick, Roy Miller was beaten in the air. The ball ended with Davy Arnaud, who knocked it home from close range. That, coupled with another corner kick, and a second-half chance that Kosuke Kimura snuffed out, were the only chances the Scum had the entire game.

Metro's first half was void of excellence, but the second saw a plethora of chances. Henry set up wide-open Jonny Steele, but the shot from close range went way wide. Kosuke Kimura sent a cross to Henry, whose header sailed a tad high. Lloyd Sam set up Eric Alexander, who just missed the top left corner. A Roy Miller give-and-go with Henry ended with Miller walking in to take a shot... But it's Roy Miller. Of course it was saved. Another give-and-go between McCarty and Henry led to McCarty needlessly passing inside the box. Peguy Luyindula nailed one off the post. Miller found Sam, all alone at the penalty spot, but the shot was shanked to the right.

At the end, Metro's complete dominance earned them jack squat. No, something is not right...

Lineup: Robles, Miller, Olave, Sekagya, Kimura, McCarty, Steele, Alexander, Sam, Luyindula, Henry. Subs: Wright-Phillips, Lade, Bover.
