How is this offseason different from every other?

Nothing happened.

That's right. For 18 years, Metro was known for constant offseason turnover. Players were jettisoned and brought in at a heart-stopping rate. And it never, ever worked.

This year? Not so much. Nine starters remain from last year's team. The major change is in central defense, as wise vice captain S. Markus Holgersson and his large salary was sent packing, to be replaced by either Spaniard newcomer Armando, or holdover Ibrahim Sekagya. The Kosuke Kimura - Brandon Barklage right back platoon has lost the latter, with ex-Toronto man (and one-time Man U hopeful) Richard Eckersley looking to own the spot. Pouting forward Fabian Espindola is now in DC, left back David Carney was shipped back to Australia, arriving ex-US international Bobby Convey will contend for spots on the left flank... and that's it. That's pretty much it.

Of course, last year's New York team WAS different from all those that preceded it: it actually won something. Oh, sure, the Supporters Shield is not as shiny as MLS Cup, but it's definitely something. So, perhaps, this new offseason strategy and supposed multi-year consistency that is bound to come are the final steps for that ultimate glory.

We can only hope.
