Mendes taken by Columbus in re-entry draft
December 5, 2011

Carlos Mendes' departure is now official. The long-time stalwart has been taken by Columbus in the first round of the Re-Entry draft. Mendes was one of three players taken, joining by Arturo Alvarez (Salt Lake to Chivas USA) and ex-Metro Danleigh Borman (Toronto to New England).

Mendes leaves the team after playing 166 games in all competitions, third all-time in team history. His 146 league games is second only to Mike Petke.

Mendes' departure leaves Dane Richards as the team's longest-tenured player, and the only one to join Metro before the arrival of Erik Soler.
