When the list of available players for the re-entry draft was released, Greg Sutton's appearance raised some eyebrows. Not his overall inclusion, for his level of play in 2011 was not exactly up to par. Rather for the fact that he was listed under Montreal, not under New York.

Well, the explanation comes from RBNY itself. When Sutton when on loan to then-in-NASL Montreal, they had an option to acquire his MLS rights at the end of the season. They did just that, but did not exercise his option for 2012. So, in reality, all that buys Montreal is three extra days of exclusive negotiation, as clubs have until December 2 to negotiate with their own players... But we now know for sure that Sutton is no longer a RBNY player.

Update: Sutton officially signed a contract with the MLS Impact on December 8.
