At practice with Danny Cepero
November 12, 2008

MetroFanatic: Danny, what was more important, the goal on your debut, or last week?
Danny Cepero: Without a doubt, it was last week. In terms of the club, beating the defending champion in their place, and getting one of the best victories in the history of the franchise. In the big picture, it's so much bigger than my goal. My goal is kinda at the bottom of the list for me, as long as we're winning and I'm keeping the ball out of the net, that's the priority for me.

MF: If the game comes down to penalty kicks, are you prepared?
DC: Yeah, you're about as prepared as you can be. For me, as a goalkeeper, you can only practice PKs so much. Once you're in the heat of the moment, instincts take over. I'm not too concerned about that, I'm hoping it doesn't get to that and we're able to take care of it in 90 minutes. But we've practiced taking them.

MF: How have you been in your career stopping them?
DC: It's not something that happens all the time. I like to think I do pretty well, but I guess at the end of the day it doesn't matter, and it comes down how you do in the shootout that happens.

MF: You're a developmental player, you come in, and you're thrust in the spotlight. How does that feel?
DC: Feel pretty good. It's a lot of fun. Going into the season, you're not expected to be thrust into such a position quickly, but I'm making the best of it. Roll with the punches, the good and the bad, the ups and downs. Just trying to help the team win and help the city get a championship.

MF: Do you think you've earned a senior contract for next year?
DC: Ummmm... Who knows. It's something we'll discuss once the season is over. Right now, I'm trying not to think too much about that, but getting better and imporving for the next game.

MF: So when Jon went out and there were three back-ups, how did you win the job?
DC: That's a good question. You probably have to ask the coaching staff where they put us on the depth chart. No one expected it, no one knew who it's gonna be. I don't know how the decision came about, but I'm kinda glad it was me.

MF: How has your Ivy League experience prepared you for this?
DC: Ummm... (laughs) I don't think the Ivy League experience has any bearing on this. Ivy League soccer is... a lot different. In the classroom...

MF: So you actually went to class?
DC: Yes! On the better days, I did. Maybe it helps to analyze things just a little bit more. But I don't know if the two go hand in hand.
