Metro offer deals to Kandji, two others?
August 13, 2008
According to the NY Post, RBNY has offered deals to three strikers: Senegalese Macoumba Kandji of the Atlanta Silverbacks, Panamanian Gabriel Torres, and a yet-unknown forward. Also coming on trial is Gambian Under-20 international Sainey Touray.
This season, Kandji, 23, has scored ten goals and added five assists in 19 matches for the USL1 team. The obstacle to signing him might be the $200,000 asking price, as reported by SoccerByIves. Torres, the youngest ever cap for Panama, is owned by Chepo and was last on loan to Colombia's La Equidad, where he scored five goals in 18 matches. He is 19 years old.
MLS's international transfer period closes this Friday. Kandji, who plays for a domestic team, should not be subject to that limit.
Update: SoccerByIves is reporting that RBNY is "actively trying to trade for allocation funds" for Kandji's transfer fee.
Update: on Friday, the NY Post reported that all offers for international-based players were rejected. Kandji, however, is still in the picture.
