So much for being undefeated. Playing without an injured Cladio Reyna, Metro allowed a first-half goal and blew a number of great chances, losing to Colorado 1:0 in front of a sparse crowd at Giants Stadium.

Reyna picked up an injury in training, so universal adapter Seth Stammler plugged into central midfield, and Tim Regan went in for the injured Hunter Freeman at right back. Juan Pablo Angel made his regular-season debut at Jozy Altidore was benched.

Colorado got on the board in the 24th minute, as a non-call foul in midfield led to an attack that saw the ball centered to Niko Hernandez, who blasted it past the outstretched Jon Conway for the lead. Metro's best chance of the first half came off a Dane Richards run, when the Jamaican evaded several defenders prior to being tackled in the box.

At halftime, Regan was replaced by Sinisa Ubiparipovic, who went into a midfield as Dema Kovalenko switched to right back. Early in the period, Metro had two great chances to tie the game. Early in the period, a Richards run and cross ended up with one too many passes in the box close to the goal, and Angel's shot was cleared off the line by a Rapid. In the 58th minute, Clint Mathis decided to pass, not shoot, on a breakaway, and Richards' weak shot was smothered by Bouna Coundoul.

With Reyna out, most of the attack came through the wings and thwarted there. On this day, this supposedly good Metro team was shades of Metro teams past. Oh well. The season is still young. Not like they could have ended it undefeated anyway.

Lineup: Conway, Dunivant, Mendes, Parke, Regan, Stammler, Kovalenko, van den Bergh, Richards, Mathis, Angel. Subs: Ubiparipovic, Altidore.
