Media Day with Ramon Bailey
March 21, 2005
MetroFanatic: Ramon, we don't know much about you, can you please tell us about yourself?
Ramon Bailey: I was born in Jamaica. I emmigrated to the United States when I was nine. I've been living in the Bronx almost my whole life. I went to Martin Luther King High School, and I won a couple of championships there. I played on the Jamaican Under-17 national team in World Cup qualifiers. From there, I went to Mercer County Community College, we went to the finals, lost in the finals, but I was awarded MVP for the season, and selected All-American. I was in tryouts in Europe, in France, First Division Auxerre, Second Division Dijon. I feel it's a challenge for me, being young, to move away from here. I figured it would be much better to stay here a couple more years, and then make the move to Europe.
MF: So this is your first professional contract?
RB: Yes.
MF: It said on the internet that you like to juggle balls in the shower.
RB: I'm a big fan of soccer. Growing up, you like playing with the ball. In Jamaican culture, we're always with the ball.
MF: And the shower is just a logical place?
RB: (laughs) Yes.
MF: Ramondeenho, it that gonna be your nickname?
RB: Definitely, because Ronaldinho is my favorite player. It's a player I really look up to. He is amazing.
MF: Are you gonna be playing in the midfield or as an attacker?
RB: Originally, I'm a midfielder. But for the preseason games in Ecuador, I played up front. Right now I'm trying to find my spot on the team. I'm not sure where I'm gonna play.
