Media Day with Mike Magee
April 9, 2003

MetroFanatic: Welcome to the MetroStars. It looks like you might start right away, what are your thoughts on that?
Mike Magee: Right now it's not a big concern. I'm just thinking about developing my weaknesses. Obviously it would be nice to start and get some playing time, but right now it's not my main concern.

MF: So what are your weaknesses?
MM: I'd say just staying in tune with the game. You know, in youth soccer you can get away with taking breaks during the game and you can't do that now. Also my size, I'm a little bit smaller, as well as holding the ball.

MF: A year ago you went to Europe and had tryouts with Ajax and other teams. What changed your mind, to take a look at MLS?
MM: I'd say midway through the trial, the World Cup and everything in general; the MLS was progressing, and seeing the players now coming back to MLS, all those components, pointed that this was the right thing to do.

MF: A year ago, did you feel MLS was inferior?
MM: I'd say it just came too soon. I didn't really know much about MLS. I wasn't sure how it was going to do. I was hearing rumors maybe it wouldn't be around! It was mostly uncertainty. But after seeing the World Cup and everything I decided it was the right thing.

MF: What about your relationship with Bob Bradley?
MM: I've known Bob for 5 years now. I got to train with him a little bit in Chicago. Besides being a great guy and an amazing coach, there's not much more you can say.

MF: You've got Donadoni's number... you'll live up to that, right?
MM: (laughs) We'll see.
