The MetroStars finally woke up from their Giants Stadium slumber, beating the Revolution, 4:3. But the win didn't come easy; after racing out to a three-goal lead early in the second half, the Metros almost gave it up, having to withstand New England's constant pressure. Thankfully, all the Revs could manage was two goals, and the Metros escaped with a win.

Andy Williams scored his second goal in as many games, giving the Metros a 1:0 lead in the 25th minute with a beautiful shot from a sharp angle that Jurgen Sommer tipped into the net. Nine minutes later, Mamadou Diallo made it 2:0 with a penalty kick, after being pulled down in the box by ex-Metro Daniel Hernandez.

Brad Davis scored his fourth goal of the year with an amazing shot from outside the box in the 41st minute when the Revs couldn't clear a corner kick, but New England pulled one back through Taylor Twellman in the 43rd to make it 3:1 at halftime.

Diallo then grabbed his second in the game almost off the opening kickoff of the second half, beating Sommer with a great individual effort. Up by three, the Metros should have won in a walkover, but first Steve Ralston in the 59th made it 4:2, with a great shot in the upper corner. Just four minutes later, Hernandez scored his first Giants Stadium goal ever with a rocket from way outside the box (why couldn't he do that as a Metro?) The remaining 27 minutes of the game consisted of the Revolution controlling the ball for a large percentage of time, only to be denied -- be it by Metro defense or the goalpost.

Lineup: Howard, Chronopoulos, Petke, Jolley, Ziadie, Lisi, Paule, Davis, Williams, Faria, Diallo. Subs: Moore, Addo, Alvarez.
