Media Day with Brian White
February 25, 2019

MetroFanatic: Brian, you are the first to go through the PDL team to the USL team to the first team.
Brian White: Playing in the summers with the PDL team gave me exposure to the Red Bulls system and coaching staff. Then, coming out of school, fit in with the USL team, was able to progress there, adapt to the faster pace of the game, and eventually make my way up to the first team. Now, just try to improve every day.

MF: Let's talk about that USL game with a goal, assist, and save. Unmatchable, probably.
BW: That was a crazy game. I played in the field the first 80 minutes or so, and we used all three subs, we got a red card, so they had to put me in...

MF: Why you?
BW: Because we brought in Tom Barlow, another forward, with fresh legs. So to keep the backline tight, they threw me in the goal.

MF: So some strategy involved?
BW: Yeah.

MF: The goal against Houston, in the grand scheme of things, just a goal, but such a key three points.
BW: Any game you win is an important win, especially when the race for the Supporters Shield is so close. I was happy that it helped us achieve one of our main goals.

MF: So you clearly think the PDL and USL path helped guide you?
BW: I learned a lot through the PDL and USL and playing at Duke for a couple of years. I think the whole process for me worked out perfectly. I think I am where I am because of it.

MF: I think they are trying to do more of that now.
BW: I think it's a useful strategy and system than the Red Bulls have.
