What an amazing, exciting game! So many chances, so much world-class play! And the goals, oh the goals! What marvelous example of Major League Soccer!

Or, you know, not. Metro and Portland slugged out through 90 scoreless minutes, where the most exciting subplot were early injuries. Ugh.

Jesse Marsch was forced to change his suspended central defense, replacing Aurelien Collin and Chris Duvall with Gideon Baah and Ronald Zubar. Gonzalo Veron, trying to prove he is worth a DP contract, came on for Alex Muyl.

The injuries started less than a minute in, after a Portland played pulled up lame. Baah left the game in the 22nd, hurting himself was he was walking back from a set piece. Yes, he injured himself walking, the third time he was forced to miss time due to being hurt in half a season.

Damien Perrinelle replaced Baah for his first action of the season and acquitted himself well. The whole defense did, actually; Luis Robles didn't have much to do. He did have to come up with one terrific save midway through the half.

As for the offense... the less said, the better. Veron might have earned a penalty when he was taken down in the box, but his diving reputation likely prevented it from happening. Metro's best chance came after Felipe just beat the offside trap to come one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot was saved. There was some flurry in injury time, but it was all for naught.

Yeah, this one was lame.

Lineup: Robles, Lade, Baah, Zubar, Zizzo, McCarty, Martins, Kljestan, Grella, Veron, Wright-Phillips. Subs: Perrinelle, Muyl, Abang.
