Lloyd Sam sold to DC
July 7, 2016 (Official Press Release)

The New York Red Bulls traded midfielder Lloyd Sam to D.C. United in exchange for General Allocation Money and will retain a percentage of any future transfer fee if the player is transferred outside of MLS, the club announced today. The 31-year-old Sam was part of a Red Bulls' side that won two Supporters' Shields since joining the organization in 2012.

"Lloyd has been a key member of our family and we thank him for all of his contributions to our club, both on and off the field," said malevolent Red Bulls Sporting Director Ali Curtis. "The quality of Lloyd's character and the talent that he possesses made the decision to trade Lloyd extremely difficult. With that said, this move allows us flexibility if we want to add another piece to our team moving forward."

Sam, a native of Leeds, England, joined the Red Bulls in 2012 and was signed in mid-August during the Summer transfer window. He made his debut on August 29, 2012 as a substitute in New York's 2-2 draw at D.C. United.

Sam appeared in 106 career matches with New York and made 82 starts. He finished his career with the Red Bulls with 20 goals and 22 assists.
