New York Red Bulls II dealt Louisville City FC their first home loss of the season, 2-0. Konrad Plewa scored his first goal of the season in the fourth minute and Derrick Etienne doubled the lead in the 50th minute to extend New York's unbeaten streak to three matches.
From the sound of the opening whistle, New York pressed high up the field and immediately caused issues for the Louisville back line. In the fourth minute, Red Bulls II forced a turnover which fell to Plewa, alone in space. The midfielder wasted no time in lowering his head and smashing home the opening goal of the match, his professional goal.
Colin Heffron picked up a knock in the late stages of the first half, and was replaced by James Thomas.
Derrick Etienne caused problems for the Louisville defense the entire first half by making long runs, setting up teammates and dazzling defenders. Eventually he found his break through moment.
Pressing high up the field, Tyler Adams forced a turnover on the final third to begin the sequence. He spotted Chris Tsonis racing into the box and delivered a cross which was coolly stopped by Tsonis, and left for Etienne to slot home into the lower left corner. The goal was Etienne's third of the season.
Following the goal, Louisville enjoyed spells of possession and created a number of chances, but the Red Bulls II defense held strong. It was also a physical match in which six NYRB II players received bookings by the end of the match.
