MetroStars AC Milan
Ramos Jose Mari
05.16.02 · Friendly

The MetroStars and Italian giants AC Milan played to a 1:1 draw in an international club friendly at Giants Stadium. In the first game, the U.S. National Team routed Jamaica, 5:0, with Clint Mathis scoring the second goal in USA's rout.

Tab Ramos, fresh off his announcement two days ago that he will retire at the end of the current season, scored the Metro goal off a Diego Serna assist in the 58th minute of play.

The New Jersey soccer legend beat the back line of the Milan defense to accept a long pass from midfield by Serna to knock the goal pass goalkeeper Massimo Taibi. The goal was the first by Ramos since June 24, 2000.

The Italians opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Tim Howard misplayed a hard right-footed shot by Spain striker Jose Mari.

Each team recorded 13 shots and used their seven allowed substitutions.

Rodrigo Faria left the game in the 52nd minute with a sprained left ankle. The team's sports medicine staff will evaluate him Friday morning at practice.
