Ali Curtis to acquire a friend
January 19, 2015

During the Town Hall last Friday, Ali Curtis made quite an impression (that is, if one is impressed by corporate speak and answers that run in circles). He also told a story.

You see, the Red Bull brass couldn't exactly present any new signings to appease the angry masses. So they put forth the only thing they could -- the promise of an USL team. Oh, that USL team that we all wanted to much!

So, yes, Curtis' story. Back in the day, he was hanging out with some players in Salt Lake. (You see how cool our GM is! He hangs out with regular folks!) One of those players was old college chum from Duke, Robbie Russell. (We'll quickly bypass the fact that Curtis sited a player who we most recently remember from DC.) And Russell introduced his pal to a new friend... a young goalkeeper.

That poor young goalkeeper, Curtis' voice shook! Four years he was on the Salt Lake roster, and he couldn't get a game! There was no reserve league back then. There was no USL.

So Curtis went back to the league office, and worked long and hard to get the reserve league off the ground. And once it became clear that the reserve league is not taken seriously, he worked long and hard to get MLS partnered with USL. Soon, disgruntled fans, soon you will see the fruits of such partnership! Young careers, like the ones of Curtis' new goalkeeper friend, will not be lost in vein!

So who is that goalkeeper friend? It's not hard to figure out. Kyle Reynish, who ended up spending six years with Salt Lake, played in eight total games there. Why do we bring that up now? Because according to ChicagoNow.com, RBNY is about to acquire Reynish, who spent the last season in Chicago.

That's right. In his first in-league transaction, Ali Curtis looks to acquire backup goalkeeper on the wrong side of 30, with limited first-team experience. But, at least they know each other.

We'll leave it at that.
