In a vacuum
January 11, 2015

In a vacuum, hiring Jesse Marsch is not that bad of a move. A promising MLS veteran, who was unjustly fired after leading expansion Montreal, a Bob Bradley disciple, one of the best young minds in the game...

Unfortunately, the only vacuum here is the one inside Ali Curtis' head.

Alright, that might not be the case. There could be another vacuum here... inside Marsch's head.

"This is an energy drink," the new coach said at his introductory press conference.

Here Marsch is, speaking after the most popular coach in team history was wrongfully fired. (Actually, not just coach. The most popular person in team history.) Here is his one chance to make it if not right, than palatable. What does he say?

Let's not repeat it again.

It's a moronic, tone-deaf comment that echoes the mentality of this club ever since the Red Bull purchase. Going on nine years now, we've questioned the priorities of Red Bull. Oh, we knew what they really were: to sell the puke-worthy beverage. But at least they kept telling fans that, for this club, soccer wins over soda.

Well, it's clear now. "This is an energy drink." Ugh, we repeated it.

Well, Marsch will have a chance to prove that he can move beyond that idiotic start. Curtis?

We just hope he doesn't have more ideas inside that vacuum.
