Red Bull would want to sell?
October 1, 2014

"Don't look for Red Bull to be involved in MLS in the long-term future."

So says Grant Wahl, US's leading soccer journalist. According to Wahl, "one source says that if a buyer approached Red Bull and offered $300 million for the Red Bulls and their stadium, the deal would get done within 48 hours."

According to Wahl, Red Bull had also held sale discussions with a local investor group two years ago. They also talked with Manchester City, before the latter decided to invest in an expansion team.

RBNY quickly issued a rebuttal. "There are no plans to sell the New York Red Bulls. While interest in soccer continues to grow in the U.S. and the MLS continues to expand, Red Bull is confident now more than ever in its investment and committed to the franchise and its supporters."

Commissioner Don Garber denied the report as well. He told the NY Daily News that he "can absolutely assure that the club is not for sale. Both the owner and management team in Austria and New York are as committed as ever to Major League Soccer, the club and their fans." You will note that earlier this year Garber denied the sale of Chivas USA, which went down soon after that rebuttal.
