August 12, 2011 (Official Press Release)

The New York Red Bulls announced today that they have acquired midfielder Stephane Auvray from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for New York's natural 2013 second round MLS SuperDraft pick. Auvray will be available for selection for the Red Bulls' match Saturday at Red Bull Arena at against Chicago.

"Stephane is an experienced player who has competed at various levels in professional soccer and we are excited to bring him into the roster," said Red Bulls General Manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler. "He will provide immediate depth to our midfield as we make our push to the MLS Cup Playoffs."

Auvray, 29, was in the midst of his second season in Major League Soccer with Kansas City. This season, he has made six appearances and three starts, missing a significant amount of time captaining the Guadeloupe National Team during the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Last year, Auvray started in 21 games after missing the first two months due to injury, notching one assist featuring primarily as a defensive midfielder.

Before joining Kansas City, Auvray played for Nimes Olympique in the French second division, making 11 appearances. From 2004-09, Auvray featured 144 times for French second division club Vannes OC, scoring one goal. He has also been with lower division sides GSI Pontivy and Caen B during his senior career, which started in 2002.

Auvray has earned 20 caps for his national team and recorded two goals. He was part of Guadeloupe's 2007 and 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaigns, as well as the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup.
