Sutton out, Horwath to start
March 25, 2011

And here we thought Alex Horwath will join the likes of Mike Ueltschey and Michael Behonick as Metro third-string goalkeepers who never saw a minute of playing time. Oh, how wrong we were.

With last year's starter Bouna Coundoul away on national team duty with Senegal, the starting job belonged to last week's starter Greg Sutton. But the Canadian behemoth suffered a concussion on Tuesday in practice, and did not travel for this weekend's game in Columbus. Instead, Horwath, officially signed earlier today, will get his first MLS start.

To back up Horwath, RBNY signed supplemental draft pick Jimmy Maurer, released during preseason, to a one-day contract.

Other than Sutton and Coundoul, Metro is also missing Thierry Henry with an injury, and Tim Ream, Rafa Marquez, Dane Richards, and Juan Agudelo with national team call-ups.
