Metro completes season shutout of DC, 0:0

This is one of the many reasons why the Atlantic Cup is so stupid: tonight, Metro "won" the trophy by the virtue of winning the season series over the DC Scum. So should the team be celebrating because it claimed some sort of inconsequential hardware? Or should it be concerned because it failed to get three points against a pathetic, crippled, morbid team, settling for a 0:0 draw?
The latter, we would hope. For this team is better than what they showed tonight. Yes, the mysterious DP is coming soon, and yes, the defense seems to be gelling, but they should have won this game.
Metro reverted to their usual 4-4-2, with Salou Ibrahim re-entering the starting lineup for Tony Tchani. New York's best chances of the game came midway through the first half, as Juan Pablo Angel's long free kick was tipped over the bar by the Scum's Troy Perkins, and then when Angel just barely missed getting on the end of a Joel Lindpere cross.
On the other end, the defense held firm. The Scum controlled the ball for most of the second half, but rarely threatened. The Metro goal, that is -- they did threaten the health of Bouna Coundoul when DC thug Adam Cristman's feet met the chest of the Metro keeper late in the game. By that point, New York has already made their three subs; Bouna shook it off, but was in visible pain for the rest of the game.
Mac Kandji, in his first action in months, had a chance to win it late, but sailed a difficult shot wide. Disappointing, really. The idiotic Atlantic Cup be damned.
