Metro close to acquiring nutjob Luke Rodgers?
April 8, 2010

His name has been out there for a couple of weeks, and got a denial from the RBNY brass. But now the rumor vultures are circling even lower, and it looks like Notts County striker Luke Rodgers just might be Metro-bound to be reunited with former boss Hans Backe.

Today, Backe told reporters in practice that he might be adding one player from Notts County, but was mum on the name. On the other side of the pond, County manager Steve Cotterill wasn't so coy, saying, "It's an opportunity of a lifetime for Luke. He has known about it for a while because Hans Backe has contacted him about it." "The lad wants to go because he has been offered a fantastic deal," County owner Ray Trew added.

Rodgers scored ten goals for County this year; the trouble is, this is League Two, England's fourth division, clearly a step below MLS. Rodgers has never played above the third level in England. He's also a notorious nutjob. In 2002, he was arrested for assaulting a Hartlepool United player in a parking lot. In 2003, he was sentenced after injuring a girl with fireworks. And last year, he was cautioned for a driving incident, as well as arrested for public drunkenness.

It is not known if Rodgers' criminal record would will stand in the way of him getting a visa.
