So close. So agonizingly close. But in the end, the winless streak against New England is now at 13 games, as a last-minute equalizer earned the short-handed Revs team a split of the points.

Last week's disastrous showing made Juan Carlos Osorio switch to a 4-4-2. Danny Cepero stayed in the nets; Danleigh Borman and Jeremy Hall, converted wingers, started as outside backs. Kevin Goldthwaite and Carlos Mendes, outside backs last week, moved to the middle. Luke Sassano got his first game of the year in defensive midfield, Khano Smith his Metro debut on the left, Dane Richards on the customary right, and Sinisa Ubiparipovic in the middle. Macoumba Kandji, after a terrible stint on the wing last week, partnered Juan Pablo Angel up top. Dominic Oduro would make his Metro debut as a late sub.

Metro's first goal of the season came off the foot of an opposing player. In the 35th minute, after a nice play by Kandji, Smith hit what was intended to be a cross that bounced off of Jay Heaps and into the Rev net.

The Revs, playing without several starters, including keeper Matt Reis, had their share of opportunities throughout the match, but the makeshift Metro defense held its own, and Cepero recovered well from his own terror in Seattle, making saves when necessary.

That is until the 90th minute when Kenny Mansally blew by Goldthwaite, took a pass from Shalrie Joseph, and slotted it home.

So close.

Oh well. It was a better performance than last week.

On the other hand, it was hard to be worse...

Lineup: Cepero, Borman, Goldthwaite, Mendes, Hall, Sassano, Ubiparipovic, Smith, Richards, Kandji, Angel. Subs: Oduro.
