With the third overall pick in the 2002 Superdraft, the MetroStars drafted Project-40 midfielder Brad Davis from St. Louis. With the seventh pick, the Metros drafted defensive midfielder Mansour Ndiaye from UConn and MLK High School in NYC.

Trading their 2003 third rounder to New England for the 30th overall pick, Metros picked up another member of UConn's 2000 NCAA champions, defender Sam Forko. The 5th round pick (56th overall) went on North Jersey Imperials midfielder Mario Gomez, who is already in Metro training camp in Florida. In the 6th round the Metros drafted midfielder Jeff Moore from Division III Richard Stockton with the 66th pick and then moved into the 68th slot to pick up Cal defender Leo Krupnik.
