Q&A with draft pick David Roth
January 20, 2008

Metro's fourth round draft pick David Roth was kind enough to answer a few questions, just a couple of days after becoming the newest member of the team.

MetroFanatic: Where in the midfield did you play in college and where do you see yourself playing in MLS?
David Roth: In college I played mainly left midfield. I see myself playing in a similar role in the MLS.

MF: You said after you were drafted that New York was your number one choice. Why is that?
DR: New York was my number one place to go because of the endless opportunities that exist in this city. I'm really excited to get the chance to be apart of this organization and to play with some great players. New York is one of the best cities in the world and it is a really exciting to be a Red Bull.

MF: Northwestern is not known for producing soccer talent. Does that present a challenge for you as you go from college to the pros?
DR: Northwestern traditionally hasn't produced a ton of high caliber players, but it is a program that as of late has really garnered some national recognition and respect. I am eager to show that this program has given me the necessary tools to compete at the MLS level.

MF: You are listed at 5'8", 138. Do you consider your size a negative?
DR: I've always been one of the smallest guys on the field ever since I started playing soccer. Being on the smaller side made me a smarter and more technical player because I wasn't the most physical guy.

MF: Have you met or talked with Juan Carlos Osorio before or after the draft? What was your impression of him?
DR: I have met him briefly at the MLS combine and from what I saw of him at the Chicago Fire, I know he sees the game very well, and I am very excited to be playing under a coach of his caliber.
