Amado awards continue with MLS Player of the Month

New York Red Bulls midfielder Amado Guevara was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for October. Guevara played a key role in helping the Red Bulls clinch their fourth straight berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs by netting three goals on October 14th. He also scored a goal against Colorado on October 7th, helping the Red Bulls to a 1-1 draw with the Rapids.

Guevara came up with three important goals to seal the Red Bulls' 3-2 victory over Kansas City on Oct. 14 and clinch their playoff berth. Then on Oct. 7 Guevara scored the lone goal to hold the Colorado Rapids to a 1-1 tie. Guevara holds all four goals scored by the club in the month of October.

In his last 15 games, Guevara has seven goals and five assists while serving as team captain. Guevara is currently tied for the all-time club record in career assists with 36. Guevara also leads the Red Bulls in scoring for the 2006 season with eight goals and is tied for the most assists with five.

Now in his fourth MLS season, the 2004 MLS MVP has proven to be one of the top players in the league. He was also named the 2004 MetroStars MVP and was a member of the 2005 MLS All-Star team.

This is Guevara's second career Player of the Month award, also winning in July 2004. He's also been named Player of the Week four times in his career, most recently October 16th, 2006.
