Colombian club Millonarios scored in the first minute and added another tally in the 31st for a 2-1 victory over the MetroStars in Bogota, Colombia in a game played for the Copa Merconorte Tournament.

The victory puts the Colombian club atop the Group B standings with six points after three games played, followed by the MetroStars and Mexican club Chivas with three points each. The MetroStars have one game in hand and Chivas two games in hand on the Colombians. Venezuelan club Deportivo Italchacao sits in last place with no points after two games.

Colombian striker Wilson Cano opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the game played at an altitude of 2,650 meters above sea level in Bogota. Cano received a Javier Ferreira cross in the box and beat Tim Howard with a right-footed shot for the early 1-0 lead that brought the crowd at "El Campin" stadium to its feet.

Millonarios increased its lead to two in the 31st minute. Cano scored his tournament-leading fifth goal and second of the evening on another Ferriera cross with a right-footed shot past the outstretched arms of Tim Howard.

The MetroStars worked hard in the first half and had several opportunities to cut the deficit, but could not put it in the back of the net against goalkeeper Rafael Dudamel.

Adolfo Valencia, playing in his native country and wearing the captain's armband for the first time this season, put the MetroStars back into the game in the 68'. He beat three defenders and with his head down blasted a right-footed shot past Dudamel to cut the their lead to 2-1.

The MetroStars pressured for the game-tying goal, but received a setback in the 86' when Gilmar was red carded for elbowing a defender.

The MetroStars will return to the New York/New Jersey area Thursday night following a long trip from Bogota that includes a stop over in Atlanta.
