Metros sign Fire killer Cornell Glen
March 30, 2004 (Official Press Release)

The MetroStars announced today that they have acquired Trinidad and Tobago National Team forward Cornell Glen with an allocation from Trinidadian club CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh. Glen becomes the team's third transitional international, joining Bolivian Joselito Vaca and Jamaican Fabian Taylor. The deal comes one day ahead of the FIFA-imposed transfer window, which closes on Wednesday, March 31 for MLS teams. He will join the Metro once his Visa is approved.

"He is a talented young forward with tremendous speed," said MetroStars Head Coach Bob Bradley. "His play against the Chicago Fire in the recent CONCACAF series impressed us and we thought he would be an excellent addition to our team."

The 22-year-old Glen has earned 11 caps with the Trinidad and Tobago National Team since making his first appearance with the full team on November 15, 2002, in a 2-0 win over St. Kitts and Nevis in a 2003 Gold Cup Qualifier. The 5'9" 160-pound Port of Spain native has scored one goal for the "Soca Warriors" and is currently with the team for their friendly match against Egypt on Wednesday, March 31 in Cairo, Egypt.

"We are very excited to be able to get Cornell signed just under the deadline," said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "He is a young promising player, who we look forward to developing over the coming years."

On the club level, Glen has spent the last two years with CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh of the Trinidad and Tobago First Division. He led the team to two consecutive league championships in 2002 and 2003 to mark the only titles in team history, scoring 26 goals in 2003 and 11 in 2002. Jabloteh won the 2002 championship with a record of 19 wins, 12 ties, and two losses for 65 points, then won in 2003 with a 29-5-2 mark for a staggering 92 points and scoring 113 goals. Glen also spent two years with Adsanjonese in Portugal after joining the team from Jabloteh.

Glen scored a first half hat trick and registered an assist on another goal on March 17 against the Chicago Fire to carry Jabloteh to a 5-2 win, in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup Quarterfinal series in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
