Another glorious tie as Metros come back in LA

We should be expecting this by now. For the eight time in nine league games, the Metros went into overtime, and for the third straight game, they left with a tie, this time drawing Los Angeles 1:1. In a game reminiscent of the Chicago game a week ago, the Metros gave up an early goal and evened the game with just minutes left in regulation, this time John Wolyniec playing the hero.

The Galaxy goal came in the 13th minute as Eddie Pope made a rare mistake, not clearing the ball well enough. Cobi "who's your dentist?" Jones pounced on it, and found an onrushing Diego Serna, who slipped one it past Jonny Walker.

As we have seen numerous times this year, the Metros came alive in the second half. The mohawked-again Clint Mathis played his best game since he came back from the national team, sending crisp passes left and right. And it was Wolyniec, who started the game (the other change from mid-week was the insertion of Joey DiGiamarino at left back), that scored the game-tying goal in the 85th minute. Mark Lisi sent in a perfect ball that Mathis' head rung off the crossbar. The rebound fell to Wolyniec, who easily headed it in.

Walker stood on his head late in the game, first saving a point-blank Peter Vagenas shot as time was running out in regulation, then stopping the otherwise invisible Carlos Ruiz on a breakaway in overtime. Wolyniec muffed on a possible winner in the second frame of OT, but once again the Metros escaped with a point where it looked like they were doomed.

Lineup: Walker, DiGiamarino, Pope, Jolley, Ziadie, Clark, Williams, Lisi, Guevara, Wolyniec, Mathis. Subs: Magee, Galvan, Leitch.
